Science Journal or Marketing Journal

June 29th, 2009

grace-and-andy-017Is a journal claiming certain products have solid science backing them up, a science journal or a marketing journal?  Marketing journals are also called Advertising journals.

Is there a difference between a science journal and a marketing journal?

When a company recites references that show an ingredient in their product has a certain desired effect, they may be using “borrowed science.”

They have not actually done any clinical research on their own particular product.  Instead they use the clinical research of others.

They “hire” an advertising journal or marketing journal that appears to be a science journal to promote their product.  Distributors use these journals to sell the products.

A science journal, also called a medical journal, publishes articles based on clinical research that has been reviewed by a third party or peer reviewed.

Articles accepted for publication in science journals or medical journals are the ultimate in the world of scientific proof.

When a company says their study has been published, don’t take their word for it.  For a price, there are marketing journals that will print anything a company submits.

You can find out if a journal is a legitimate science journal simply by going online to the National Library of Medicine.  It keeps a database of all science journals in the medical area called PubMed.

If you cannot find the name of the journal, it is probably a marketing or advertising journal.

Home Business Offers refuge From Recession

June 25th, 2009

The latest economic indicators for May bring some hopeful tidings, but also grace-and-andy-019some significant concerns. The U.S. unemployment rate is as high as it has been in 25 years, and there is continued concern about sizable job losses to come. The recession has been a source of severe stress for many throughout the country.

According to the recent Multi-Sponsor Surveys’ 2009 Economic Impact Market Segmentation Study, 49% of employed adults expressed worry about potential job loss, while 32% admitted to “significant” financial troubles.

Our home business helps us continue to pay the bills on time. It also generates additional income which we save to have on hand for unexpected situations, or use when we want to do something special or to help our children.

We credit our home business for helping to alleviate much of our family’s stress and our business has eased financial concerns while providing flexibility-qualities that can insulate a family from the changing tides of the economy.

Most people who run a business from home work only part time, so there’s freedom to plan business activities around the busy schedule of a family.

When we began our business, it was on a very part-time basis.  Since we started, we’ve increased the amount of time we spend working with it.

Using the Internet and communicating our business online makes our work much more efficient and flexible at the same time, making it possible for us to work on the business pretty much whenever we have downtime from  other responsibilities.

It was easy and inexpensive to get started, and there’s no need to make space in our home for any inventory since the company ships directly to our customers.

Home businesses have drawn considerable interest from people who may be having a difficult time finding employment and from those looking for an income opportunity that also resonates with their personal beliefs-characteristics most jobs likely do not offer.

We recommend products that help people be healthier. They help our environment to be cleaner, and for homes to be safer.  We feel good about what we do.

Because we also offer the opportunity for other people to do what we’re doing-to achieve independence in a way they may not have thought possible-there’s an incredible feeling of satisfaction in knowing we can help make a real difference for people looking for extra income right now.

According to the 2009 Economic Impact Market Segmentation Study, 60% of adults are now interested in operating a home business in response to the economic downturn.

To us, there’s a great sense of security knowing our business is backed by a company with a proven track record and more than 50 years of experience giving people the means to thrive, even during the most difficult economic times.

Shaklee has grown during each of the prior recessions since it was founded in 1956.”

Family Fun At Our Reunion

June 20th, 2009

Family fun begins each year around my grandmother’s birthday in June at our family reunion. Grandmother is no longer with us but her posterity goes on.

My dad, her oldest child,  is now 96.

We come together at our family center, which is a large home without some of the inside walls, leaving a large room with tables and chairs to eat at.

We have two bathrooms, each with two toilets and two showers.  One for the girls and one for the boys.

Our meals are prepared on site in a large kitchen with two grills, a commercial refrigerator, an ice machine, and a soft ice cream machine.

The ice machine provides plenty of ice for snow cones, and the ice cream machine runs all day and goes on stand-by at night.  The kids can have as much as they can eat.

The utility room has a washer and dryer and a regular refrigerator.

Outside is a large patio to one side of the building.  A play ground for the kids is to the north of our center.  It has swings, a sand pile, a zip line, a basketball court and tether ball.

We camp-out in tents, trailers and motor homes.

This is our granddaughter arriving for the week-end.

Mornings begin with breakfast.  We have pancakes, omlets, hash browns, bacon, sausage, watermellon, cantalope, orange juice and milk.

Our grandson is learning the tricks of cooking on the grill from his granddad.  Someday he will take over.

Here are some pictures of the kids having fun.

This is the “whirl-a-hurl” swing, so named by the teen-agers.  There was a time when they would eat a bunch of ice-cream and see who would “hurl” first.

There are six seats and it goes round and round and the faster it goes, the higher the swings go.

dscf05161 There are regular swings too, for all sizes of kids:

The sand pile is a fun place for the little ones, especially when a water hose provides the water to build streams and dams.  Great fun for hours at a time.

Ping Pong is a game everyone likes to play.  Here are two contenders for the championship, Michael and Andy.  Michael won.  Andy challenged him to a re-match next year.

Environmentally Friendly Green Tips

June 19th, 2009

Environmentally friendly green tips are available to those that choose to search.

There are many people who are suffering now because of the economy.  Money is tight in many households.  It’s a good time to go green.  Going green can save you money.

Have you ever considered that the “ultra” soft toilet tissue you are using could be harmful to the environment?  They also cost more.

Did you know these ultra soft tissues are made from virgin fiber and bleached with chlorine?   Using toilet tissue brands made from 100 percent recycled fiber would be a better choice and your delicate behind will not suffer.

Those on septic systems know the ultra soft tissues can really clog things up.  Think of the savings of not having a plumber un-clogging the lines and pumping out the gunk.

Save money by visiting your local library instead of buying books.  It’s free and it’s green.

Did you ever think that your dishwasher could be environmentally friendly?  Studies have shown that running your dishwasher actually helps the environment by using less water than washing dishes by hand.

To conserve water, energy and money, run the dishwasher when full. Every time you conserve, it’s money in your pocket.

Put a lid on the pot when boiling water.  According to Bill Nye the Science Guy/NOVA, if everyone in the U.S. household did this just once, we’d save up to $2,212,175.00!

Use rechargeable batteries.  They may cost more in the beginning, but over time you will save over single use batteries.

Buy in bulk.  It reduces packaging and waste plus less trips to the store, less gas in your car and more money left in your pocket.

Kids spend an enormous amount of time playing video games.  Send them outside to play.  Studies have shown that children with ADHD who went for walks outdoors in natural settings raised their attentiveness scores higher than those who walked city streets.

How does that save the environment?  Video-game consoles are estimated to use 16 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.  That is about four times the output of Hoover Dam.

Another up-side to playing out doors—a dose of nature can be as effective as a dose of Ritalin.  Playing out doors does not have the negative side effects of a drug.

More environmentally friendly green tips include: turning off the computer at night and powering down when not in use during the day; washing clothes in warm or cold water instead of hot; pay bills on-line; use environmentally friendly and safe personal care products.

Did you know some toothpastes share the same ingredients as toilet bowl cleaners?  Now that’s an interesting note.  Perhaps some manufacturers of toothpastes consider the inside of your mouth to be the same as a toilet.

Plant a garden or buy locally grown food.  Use recycled building materials. When remodeling, donate your good condition disassembled building materials to Habitat for Humanity’s retail ReStores.

For years, our family has used SAFE, POWERFUL, GREEN HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS.

We invite you join us.

Resveratrol,…In The News Again

June 8th, 2009

The stampede is on.  Everyone and their dog is getting a resveratrol product to market.

There are now more than 200 resveratrol products on the market. Since the recent appearance of Dr. David Sinclair on CBS’s 60 Minutes, that number has nearly doubled.

But it is “Buyer Beware.”

Research has shown there is little if any resveratrol in most of these products.

There is plenty of marketing hype going around.

Consumers will be greatly disappointed when the products they use don’t live up to their expectations.

That is really a sad thing, because the anti-aging promise of resveratrol is real.

The amount or resveratrol in these products do not come close to the amounts used in the research.

Resveratrol is considered key in protecting the body against heart disease, cancer and neurological diseases, according to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a neuroscience professor at the University of Pittsburg School of Medicine.

According to him, it can prevent some infections, serve as an antiviral, reduce obesity, protect against some forms of diabetes and slow the effects of aging.

There is one product that lives up to the research claims of Dr. Sinclair from Harvard.

It comes from the # 1 Natural Nutrition Company in the U.S.  This 53 year-old company spent years developing their resveratrol product.

It was the most difficult and most expensive product in their history.

It is patented and years ahead of pharmaceutical companies quests for a drug.

When considering a resveratrol product, do your homework.

Companies can refer to the research, but what research has been done on THEIR resveratrol product and what are the findings?

Remember, not all resveratrol products are created equally.

What Would My Ideal Affiliate Look Like?

June 5th, 2009

Just over a year ago, I had no idea what an affiliate was.  The word had never entered my vocabulary. I never thought about it.  One day a friend introduced me to the idea.

It began with Ann Sieg’s e-books.  Then within the Renegade system, I could become an affiliate with AWeber, Oprius, Amazon, Site Build It, and on and on.  I was flying by the seat of my pants, following each step, not having a clue what I was doing.

Next came Mike Klingler’s Renegade University, another affiliate.  I’ve learned a lot there.  I learned about social marketing, Squidoo, FaceBook, Twitter, Blogs, YouTube and more.

I learned about branding myself, not my product.  Building lists, Lead Capture Pages, and attraction marketing.   I could go on but I think you get the picture.

As I have ventured onto the internet, I have come across multiple lead capture pages. All of these pages wanting my contact info so I can have a web site or an e-book to end all e-books to help me earn money on the internet.

The purpose… get my own web site, promote it and build my list so others can do the same thing.  There are thousands on the internet all marketing basically the same thing.  I know you’ve seen them.

Write an article, write a blog, write a Squidoo page, distinguish myself as an expert and I would have people streaming to my affiliates and making tons of money.

I’ve seen many people writing about the same things with their own unique spin.

Those who have experienced this same path know what I’m talking about.  How many will really make the money promised?

Don’t get me wrong, affiliates do make money and I applaud those who are.

There are also people producing great information.  I’ve learned from them and I thank them and appreciate them for sharing.  Not my expertise.

So, what would an ideal affiliate look like in my opinion?

Here is what my dream affiliate includes.

The value would be worth more than the investment

It would pay to unlimited levels

Earnings would be from $25 to $125 on each new affiliate

There would be a positive impact on the environment with each new affiliate

A consumable product would be included which pays to unlimited levels

The product would be in high demand, one of a kind, backed by multiple patents and thousands of research papers

The product would be in one of the biggest growth industries in the U.S.

The affiliate program would be self-funded

It would be backed by a stable, growing, expanding, over 50 year old company

Both the product and the affiliate program would be backed by multiple patents

The “list” would be buyers

It would include the opportunity to earn yearly expense paid exotic vacations based on performance

On-line 24/7 free training and education

Personal Support

Is there anything out there with all of these components?  Do you know of any?

I doAfter learning what an affiliate was, how they paid and how they worked, the light bulbs came on!

I have an affiliate program which includes all of these things.  It is in my own “backyard.”

Vitamin D Linked to HDL Cholesterol

June 4th, 2009

Research recently done by Shaklee Corporation, and presented at the National Lipid Association Scientific Sessions, shows that a lower blood vitamin D level is associated with metabolic syndrome.

One out of five people have metabolic syndrome which is a combination of medical disorders.  These disorders increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The research done by Shaklee suggests that vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health.

HDL is the good cholesterol and as the Vitamin D from supplementation was increased the levels of HDL cholesterol also increased.

Further research is needed to determine if vitamin D from dietary supplements can lower the risk levels for cardiovascular disease as well as metabolic syndrome.

Another study is already underway to confirm that vitamin D supplementation improves cardiovascular risk factors.
