Grace,

Would you like to be on the Friends of Walnut Canyon mailing list? Public meetings will be held soon about the possibility of including much more of the surrounding area into the Monument, protecting it from from future houses and highways.

Let me know if you want more info,

Those look yummy! My kids love cinammon rolls, and I have never made them myself because the recipes I have looked at seem too difficult to want to attempt. But this one seems pretty easy and I like how you gave pictures too so I know what it should look like. I am going to give it a try. Thanks!

We built a log home in the middle of a hay field in 2007. The first year we noticed a huge (almost all white) skunk digging grubs our of our lawn. You could get within a few feet of her, and she really didn't care and we couldn't scare her off.

The skunk under my side porch appeared to be the same skunk. I have a bird feeder hanging off of that porch. On the front porch I put out a small bowl of food for a stray farm cats that come to visit.

I'm to blame for my skunk problem. First mistake was building the house in his grub field, second mistake is putting food out.

After 45 minutes in the local Walmart I found the Moth Balls. They were hidden away on the bottom shelf in the "Housewares" isle. I returned home and hosed the skunk until he was out from under the porch. He was just a little upset with me. Then I sprinkled a full box of moth balls under the side porch, and while I was at it I did the front porch too.

The skunk and I have come to an understanding at this point. We have a TRUCE! She has been coming to the top of the porch the past few nights around 10:30 pm. She is cleaning up all the bird seed the birds left during the day, instead of eating what had fallen under the porch. Then she leaves, without hanging out under my porch. No spraying, and no fuss.

I'm happy, and she's happy. I'd hate to take down the feeder, I really love watching the birds during the day. I work from home, so it's a joy to be able to peek out at the birds a few times a day.

If things stink up again, I'll have to take down the feeder...but for now, we're skunk stink free!

Grace, I discovered a skunk under my side porch this morning. So far I've sprayed bug spray under the porch, and made a lot of noise. He's not too crazy about all that, he sprayed back. I'm off the the store for moth balls, and a longer garden hose. Wonder how he'd like a power washing? (giggle).

Let the games begin! Thanks for your blog. I really enjoyed it.
