Your system responds to emotional demands as it does to physical threats.

We know nutritionally that the body under stress uses three times the normal amount of protein, four to 5 times more calcium, vitamin C is used in 12 minutes, zinc is lost in perspiration and B complex vitamins are used in 14 minutes.

Heart beats increase, blood thickens and forms clots, ulcers develop, blood pressure goes up, hormone levels go down, and the digestive process turns off. Muscle and bone are cannibalized to provide nutrients.

We cannot eat enough to provide the body with the nutrients it needs under stress. In addition, the nutrients we need may not be in the food we eat. This is why we use nutritional supplements. Shaklee is our nutritional choice. No other company does the amount of R&D as Shaklee and Shaklee is the # 1 Natural Nutrition Company in the U.S.

Here are some Stress Busters you can use to help lower your stress levels:

Get up fifteen minutes earlier in the morning. The inevitable morning mishaps will be less stressful.

Do nothing which, after being done, leads you to tell a lie.

Plan ahead. Fill the gas tank when it gets to one-quarter full, buy stamps before you’re down to your last one, etc.

Relax your standards. The world will not end if the grass doesn’t get mowed this weekend, if the sheets have to be changed on Sunday instead of Saturday, etc

Pollyanna-Power! For every one thing that goes wrong there are probably 10, 50 or 100 blessings. Count them!

Blood-to-brain! Whenever possible get your feet higher than your head. This helps blood flow to the brain increasing the feeling of well being.

When feeling stressed, most people tend to breathe in short, shallow breaths. When you breathe like this, stale air is not expelled, oxidation of the tissues is incomplete, and muscle tension frequently results.

Add an ounce of love to everything you do.

Allow yourself time—everyday—for privacy, quiet, and introspection.

Have a forgiving view of events and people. Accept the fact we live in an imperfect world.

Have an optimistic view of the world. Believe most people are doing the best they can.

Is Stress Making You Sick? It is very possible. Stress affects the heart, weight, the skin and more.

Under stress, the heart beat increases and the heart has to work harder. Blood thickens and clots more easily. Blood clots that form when there is no wound, is not good.

The Immune System slows down substantially and you are more susceptible to illness, infection and degeneration,

Colon function is impaired, resulting in constipation, diarrhea, and gas produced by undigested food. The digestive process turns off causing stomach upsets.

Adrenal secretions increase, pumping adrenalin into the blood stream to temporarily give you strength, speed, and stamina.

If you are being attacked by a bear, this needs to happen, but in everyday life, the “fight or flight” syndrome day in and day out takes a toll on your health.

Under stress, the skin may break out with acne, psoriasis, hives or rosacea.

Stress can change the balance of chemicals in the brain and narrow the blood vessels which may cause headaches. Tension in the shoulders and neck may make them worse.

Things you can do to lessen stress are:

Identify what is stressful; talk with someone important to you; plan ahead; exercise; tackle problems 1-1; have a positive attitude; avoid alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, caffeine and sugar; know what you can and cannot change; Supplement your diet with nutrients that feed the cells.

The body manufactures 55,000 new cells every second! Cells require protein, vitamins minerals and more. Under stress these nutrients are used up extremely fast and must be replenished.

Our family uses quality nutritional supplements, one of which is Stress Relief Complex. I invite you to view a short video “The Shaklee Difference.“ There is a difference in supplements.

Have you had any stress lately? Who hasn’t? With the stock market falling, the mortgage crisis, loss of jobs and more, everyone is a bit stressed these days.

We try to cope and do the best we can. Have you ever wondered how your body is responding?

There is a definite reaction in the body as a result of the thoughts and concerns of the mind.

What the mind harbors, the body manifests in some way.

Your stress level influences the rate of aging in the body.

Over-reacting to harmless situations increases aging. Does it really matter if your child spills the milk?

Negative thoughts in your mind produce stress and speed up the aging process.

The skin reacts to stress and has two basic response patterns: Skin temperature and electrical activity.

During tense, anxious times, the blood vessels shut down and allow less blood to pass..causing the skin temperature to decrease.

Have you ever noticed your cold hands when you give a speech?

At other times the blood vessels open and allow the skin to flush with blood, increasing the skin temperature. Think of blushing.

There are two major effects of stress: Physiological–damage to organs and Resistance to disease is lowered.

Under stress, the body automatically prepares for “Fight or Flight.”

The body pulls together all its resources to accomplish this.

What does the body do?

The upper half of the body speeds up its functions. The pulse increases, respiration increases, blood pressure goes up and hormone levels drop.

The lower half slows, or shuts down.

The heart beat increases, and has to work harder.

Blood is pulled from extremities to the center of the body.

Blood thickens and clots more easily. Digestion stops.

Think of the health problems you are aware of.

Heart disease, male and female problems, digestion problems, blood clots (remember, the blood is thickening as the coagulation chemistry prepares to resist wounds with quick clotting.)

Muscle and bone are cannibalized to provide nutrients!

Colon function is impaired, resulting in: constipation, diarrhea, bloating from gas produced by undigested food. (the lower half of body shuts down)

The Immune system slows down substantially. You are more susceptible to illness, infection and degeneration.

The reproductive system shuts down. Menstrual cycles may change or stop. Infertility may result with men or women.

The reproductive system is nonessential to life, consequently it is one of the first body systems to suffer under stress.

Your body manufactures 55,000 new cells every second!

Cells require Protein, Vitamins and Minerals.

What happens to these nutrients under stress?

Protein is used 3 times faster.

Calcium is used four to five times faster.

Vitamin C is used in 12 minutes.

Zinc is lost in perspiration

B-Complex is used in 14 minutes.

Why are these nutrients important?

Protein builds cells and is necessary to all body actions.

It is a component of hormones and is necessary to the immune system.

Calcium relaxes muscles and neutralizes stomach acids. An insufficient supply in the body leads to osteoporosis, backaches, headaches and muscle spasms.

Vitamin C strengthens the immune system. It is necessary for healthy teeth and gums and it builds collagen.

It counters the effects of stress as it provides resistance to infection.

Zinc is a part of all enzymes. It is important to the function of the reproductive system, for both males and females. There is substantial losses in perspiration.

B-Complex calms the nerves. It is needed to produce energy from foods and in the production of antibodies.

Ways to cope with stress:

Identify what is stressful

Talk with someone important to you

Plan ahead

Exercise

Tackle problems one at a time

Have a positive attitude

Avoid alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, caffeine, and sugar

Know what you can and cannot change

Use quality nutritional supplements to quickly replace used up nutrients.
