Current Trends Can Predict The Probable Success Of A New Business

March 3rd, 2010

Start a business from scratch and the chances of survival are only 15-20%.  Not the best of odds.

Most new business owners find that they simply create a new “job” for themselves.

Current trends can predict the probable success of a new business.

Franchises can be successful but really expensive.  Start-up costs are high, from $88,000 and up.

A less risky approach could be a “personal or micro-franchise.”

Take advantage of a proven business system and start making money within a week or two!

Look around you. Have you noticed what is happening in the health industry, the green market, the anti-aging market and the beauty market?

Energy and vitality is one of the largest emerging markets today.

According to the Nutrition Business Journal sales of energy drinks, energy bars, vitamin water, etc., reached $8 billion in 2008.

Green products are staying strong.

Solidify your future by tapping into these growing and expanding current trends.

Find What Floats

February 19th, 2010

You’re on a ship, it hits an iceberg and starts taking on water. It will soon sink.  Sound familiar.  It is.  The Titanic hit an iceberg. It started sinking.

The captain knew it was sinking but ordered the music to keep playing.

People on board kept eating and drinking, having a good time.

Those on the deck saw the water rising and knew the ship was sinking.  There was a big problem…not enough life boats.  They knew they had to get in a life boat.

You know the rest of the story.  There are lessons in the sinking of the Titanic.

Life gives us economic sinking ships. What can you do?  Find what floats and grab on.

Before your ship hits an iceberg and sinks, here are some suggestions:

Build life boats

Get in the boat

Care about people

Teach others to build life boats

2010 is the 54th year Shaklee has been helping thousands of people build life boats.

Watch “Roots of Shaklee”

Shaklee floats…we help build boats…build your boat and get in…help others build boats.

Self Reliance

February 1st, 2010

Have you seen the YouTube video about the two people on an escalator when it suddenly stops?  Instead of walking up or down the steps, they start crying out for help.

“Somebody, anybody please help.  We’re stuck.  Hello, anybody there?”

There are two major trends of 2010:

**Health Crisis—disease care is economically non-viable

 **Economic Crisis

Shaklee is expertly positioned to take advantage of these two trends.  This means you are too, IF you choose to position yourself.

Roger Barnett, owner and CEO of Shaklee says: “We now have ‘the right stuff” to move ahead.  In Roger’s first 5 years since purchasing Shaklee, $50 million has been invested in the business!

Another reason Shaklee is right today—The American Dream.  We all have the talents and capabilities to move the dream forward for others through the vehicle of Shaklee.

There are 7 ways to earn in Shaklee.  Watch this short video presentation to learn 5 ways.

Number 6 is: the “Power of 10 Bonuses;” earn $100 for each 10 points earned in the first 90 days in Shaklee.

Number 7: The Fast Track Career Path to earning up to $100,000 in the first 15 months of being in the business.

The question isn’t “who is going to let you?”  The question is “Who is going to stop you?”  (From BYU TV)

“Somebody, anybody please help, I’m stuck.  Hello, anybody there?”

YOU are the one YOU have been waiting for.

Take Action!

Working From Home Has Benefits

January 20th, 2010

I work from home.  This week as storm after storm has passed through our area, I again appreciated the benefits of having a home-based business.

When it is cold and snowy, I can sit in the comfort of my home office.  I can email, hold conference calls, or have on-line meetings.  I can visit on the phone with my associates, place orders or do research.

I don’t have to get up before the sun, get into a cold car and drive on icy roads to work.

My heart goes out to parents who have to get up early, bundle up their precious little people and drop them off at a day care center.

Would they want it differently?  Maybe.  Choosing and operating a home-based business could be intimidating.

My home-based business has many other benefits. I don’t have to produce, test, distribute or deliver products.  That is done for me.  I get paid for advertising.

I have a customized, search engine optimized web site complete with a shopping cart.  It even has Google Analytics.

Could what I do be for you?  Most certainly if you decided to.

You  may ask who’s going to let you? You should ask who’s going to stop you?  Either way, that person may be you.

Explore the Infinite Possibilities of my home-based business opportunity.

In The Beginning: My Story

October 26th, 2009

(Speech I gave at “Meet the Masters” in Phoenix, AZ. Oct. 24, 2009)Grace And Andy 017

I would like to start with a story…

In the sweltering summers and bone-chilling winters, a farming man would look to his sons for the hands needed for planting and harvesting.  When the midwife delivered to his wife what had all the appearance of a stillborn child, it was a twice dealt blow.

The father would not accept the verdict that the child was lifeless, although as he looked at the shriveled infant he noted that it seemed no more than a tiny sack of skin and bones.  But he saddled his horse and rode three miles to the nearest doctors in practice, and brought back with him two physicians.

Their prognosis matched that of the blunt wording of the midwife.  The infant had barely any pulse; it was hopeless.  When the mother asked if she might nurse the child, it seemed the kindest thing to let her do, and the infant suckled and went into a deep sleep.

For weeks and even months, there were no palpable signs of improvement.  Neighboring women who came to call and to care for the mother, as was the custom, clucked sadly about the misfortune, for it was apparent to all that this frail creature could hardly hope to survive.

But they had not counted on one thing.  Giving all the energy that a healthy child might have converted to wriggling, bawling, exercising each of his limbs, the child lay in his crib performing just two functions.  He observed and he thought.  And when the room was still of voices and empty of the bustle of people, gradually, very gradually he practiced with great concentration, just curling up the fingers of one hand and then the other.  (Shaklee Survey, 1976)

As humans, we sometimes long to know where we came from, why we look the way we do, and act the way we do.  We search our family history looking for clues.

Just as we learn from our family history, we also learn from our Shaklee history and the heritage we have as Shaklee Members.

A small sample of Basic H given to me by a friend became a gift that keeps on giving.

As a young mother that small sample of Basic H introduced me to another way of living, a different way of thinking and a lifetime of sharing.

Learning about Vita Lea and Protein saved me from sleeping 24/7.  Taking nutritional supplements was weird at the time and I got lots of ribbing.  But I needed something, and Shaklee provided it.

I made a commitment at that time to use all the products and to never ever quit.

I was soon sharing with all my family and friends.  My parents were the first to hear about Shaklee.  I took a bottle of Basic H, a Vita Lea and a can of protein when I went to visit them.

I followed my mother around her kitchen telling her all the amazing things Basic H would do.  She never said a word.  I left the products with them.  A week later, they called and wanted more of that stuff.  In only one week they felt a difference taking the Vita Lea and protein.  Mother and Dad...70th Wedding Anniversay 002

Several years later I asked my mother why she used the products when she seemed so uninterested.  Because I was her daughter and she wanted to help me.  And help me she did.  She told everyone about them.  She had a great group of members and earned a bonus check every single month.

(Picture of my parents on 70th weddding anniversary)

She had a hereditary form of arthritis and the doctors had told her she would be in a wheel chair by the time she was 40.  It never happened.  She could still do the splits when she was 86.  We didn’t ask her to try after that.  Her favorite product was Alfalfa and she bought it by the case because she never wanted to be without it.

On a routine visit to her doctor, because of her age he suggested she use a drug to increase bone density.  She read the side-effects and then looked at him and said, “Why would anyone want to take this?  I’ll just go home and take more calcium.”

My dad is 96 and still living in his home.  He takes no meds, but calls and lets me know that he needs more of that stuff to help him live another 25 years.  And he is still earning bonus checks.

I have not made the millions that Al has, (Al Hegerman, Presidential Master Coordinator, earns more than $3,800 a day, 7 days a week )  but I should hit a million dollars in earnings within this next year.

There are thousands like me in Shaklee.  The money has been great, but more than the money, nothing could compensate for the healthier lives and a better quality of life for my parents and those I love.

Shaklee gave me the freedom to be a stay-at-home mom and now a stay-at-home grandma.

It paid for a two year church mission for our son, a national scout jamboree, modeling school and much more.

We’ve enjoyed expense paid trips, new cars and fun vacations.

My husband had two back surgeries within 9 months, and was told he could no longer work in his chosen field. For two years our bonus checks paid the house payment, the utilities and gas for the car.   Our Shaklee business has been a gift.

The child who laid in the crib thinking, observing and curling up his fingers was Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee. He left us a heritage of wonderful products and a philosophy to live by.

We bought into his philosophy of Living In Harmony with Nature.

Today, we have Roger Barnett, CEO and owner of Shaklee Corporation. He has a huge vision for Shaklee.  As Shaklee members, we are beginning to catch his vision of “Making a Difference” to millions of families and just as we bought into Dr. Shaklee, we are buying into Roger.  Under Roger’s leadership, Shaklee is growing and expanding around the world.

We have new products, new ideas, new technology and a POWERFUL COMPENSATION PLAN.

As Dr. Shaklee would say…”the heck with yesterday, what’s doing today?”

What is “doing today?”  For me it is….

ITrack, my blog, on-line newsletters, email with hot links, Shaklee University, web sites, videos, YouTube, conference calls and more.

We have Vivix, Vitalizer, NutriFeron and Cinch.  Get Clean and Enfuselle.

We are living in the information age. We have exciting tools and products.

Shaklee is on the move….if you’re not in, get in, if you are in, stay in.  Never, ever quit.

When I attended those first Shaklee meetings, I was clueless about the marketing plan.  I didn’t understand it.  Just like some of you may be feeling.

When Mary Ann and Ralph (my up-line business leaders) got their first car, the thought came to me, “They aren’t any smarter than me.  I can do that too.”  And I did.

And so can you.  Start where you are, do something each day, keep moving forward.  Dr. Shaklee would always tell us, don’t worry about the money, go out and help the other fellow.  The money will come.  And it did and it will.

And gradually, very gradually, the child in the crib, practiced curling up the fingers of one hand and then the other…..and like the child in the crib, Shaklee continues to grow. The company is the #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the U.S., and is reaching out and encircling the globe.  Become a part of it.

Home Business Offers refuge From Recession

June 25th, 2009

The latest economic indicators for May bring some hopeful tidings, but also grace-and-andy-019some significant concerns. The U.S. unemployment rate is as high as it has been in 25 years, and there is continued concern about sizable job losses to come. The recession has been a source of severe stress for many throughout the country.

According to the recent Multi-Sponsor Surveys’ 2009 Economic Impact Market Segmentation Study, 49% of employed adults expressed worry about potential job loss, while 32% admitted to “significant” financial troubles.

Our home business helps us continue to pay the bills on time. It also generates additional income which we save to have on hand for unexpected situations, or use when we want to do something special or to help our children.

We credit our home business for helping to alleviate much of our family’s stress and our business has eased financial concerns while providing flexibility-qualities that can insulate a family from the changing tides of the economy.

Most people who run a business from home work only part time, so there’s freedom to plan business activities around the busy schedule of a family.

When we began our business, it was on a very part-time basis.  Since we started, we’ve increased the amount of time we spend working with it.

Using the Internet and communicating our business online makes our work much more efficient and flexible at the same time, making it possible for us to work on the business pretty much whenever we have downtime from  other responsibilities.

It was easy and inexpensive to get started, and there’s no need to make space in our home for any inventory since the company ships directly to our customers.

Home businesses have drawn considerable interest from people who may be having a difficult time finding employment and from those looking for an income opportunity that also resonates with their personal beliefs-characteristics most jobs likely do not offer.

We recommend products that help people be healthier. They help our environment to be cleaner, and for homes to be safer.  We feel good about what we do.

Because we also offer the opportunity for other people to do what we’re doing-to achieve independence in a way they may not have thought possible-there’s an incredible feeling of satisfaction in knowing we can help make a real difference for people looking for extra income right now.

According to the 2009 Economic Impact Market Segmentation Study, 60% of adults are now interested in operating a home business in response to the economic downturn.

To us, there’s a great sense of security knowing our business is backed by a company with a proven track record and more than 50 years of experience giving people the means to thrive, even during the most difficult economic times.

Shaklee has grown during each of the prior recessions since it was founded in 1956.”

What Would My Ideal Affiliate Look Like?

June 5th, 2009

Just over a year ago, I had no idea what an affiliate was.  The word had never entered my vocabulary. I never thought about it.  One day a friend introduced me to the idea.

It began with Ann Sieg’s e-books.  Then within the Renegade system, I could become an affiliate with AWeber, Oprius, Amazon, Site Build It, and on and on.  I was flying by the seat of my pants, following each step, not having a clue what I was doing.

Next came Mike Klingler’s Renegade University, another affiliate.  I’ve learned a lot there.  I learned about social marketing, Squidoo, FaceBook, Twitter, Blogs, YouTube and more.

I learned about branding myself, not my product.  Building lists, Lead Capture Pages, and attraction marketing.   I could go on but I think you get the picture.

As I have ventured onto the internet, I have come across multiple lead capture pages. All of these pages wanting my contact info so I can have a web site or an e-book to end all e-books to help me earn money on the internet.

The purpose… get my own web site, promote it and build my list so others can do the same thing.  There are thousands on the internet all marketing basically the same thing.  I know you’ve seen them.

Write an article, write a blog, write a Squidoo page, distinguish myself as an expert and I would have people streaming to my affiliates and making tons of money.

I’ve seen many people writing about the same things with their own unique spin.

Those who have experienced this same path know what I’m talking about.  How many will really make the money promised?

Don’t get me wrong, affiliates do make money and I applaud those who are.

There are also people producing great information.  I’ve learned from them and I thank them and appreciate them for sharing.  Not my expertise.

So, what would an ideal affiliate look like in my opinion?

Here is what my dream affiliate includes.

The value would be worth more than the investment

It would pay to unlimited levels

Earnings would be from $25 to $125 on each new affiliate

There would be a positive impact on the environment with each new affiliate

A consumable product would be included which pays to unlimited levels

The product would be in high demand, one of a kind, backed by multiple patents and thousands of research papers

The product would be in one of the biggest growth industries in the U.S.

The affiliate program would be self-funded

It would be backed by a stable, growing, expanding, over 50 year old company

Both the product and the affiliate program would be backed by multiple patents

The “list” would be buyers

It would include the opportunity to earn yearly expense paid exotic vacations based on performance

On-line 24/7 free training and education

Personal Support

Is there anything out there with all of these components?  Do you know of any?

I doAfter learning what an affiliate was, how they paid and how they worked, the light bulbs came on!

I have an affiliate program which includes all of these things.  It is in my own “backyard.”

A Home Based Business? Me?

February 27th, 2009

Having a home based business never was part of my plan.  Being a wife and mother was the most important career I could have.

So when a friend pestered me to the point I could no longer avoid her, I agreed to attend a meeting.  I had already started using one of the products she promoted and I really liked it.

What harm would it be to attend a meeting?

Remembering our experience with bras and girdles, Andy bowed out.  If I wanted to get involved, he said, go but don’t include him.

Long story short, I learned about nutrition, a new business model and I could make money and be at home with my kids.

Sounded good.  Since I was experiencing very low energy (which my Dr. said there was nothing wrong with me),  I decided to try the nutritional products.

My energy soon returned.  I shared all I knew about this new business with friends and family.

Without knowing what I was doing, I soon had a home based business going.

Our business boomed, then tragedy struck.  Our 10 year-old son died in a car accident.  Our world changed.  My business, which was now “our” business, moved to the back burner.

We moved from our family home, then moved again.  Almost 10 years went by without us actively working our business.

But something interesting and amazing kept happening.  We continued to receive residual earnings checks from our “business.”

We had shared our products with so many friends and family who loved them as we did, and they continued to use them.  So had we.

One day Andy asked me why I didn’t go out and get a job to keep me busy.  By this time our youngest son was a senior in high school.

I thought about it, but the idea of being on someone else’s time schedule, getting up early, going to work in a snow storm, or not having the luxury of being home baking cookies or reading a good book did not appeal to me.

Besides, by bonus check was about the same amount as someone working full time.  Why would I want to go to work?

That is when I realized what a wonderful gift my friend had shared with me so many years before.

The products have kept us healthy, living “green” and making money.  Our little home based business had provided for us during lean times.  It took us on vacations and helped pay the bills.

Now we haven’t been “super stars” in this home based business industry, but we haven’t been slouches either.  Working part-time and no-time, we have made more than most people working full time.

More importantly, we have helped many people have healthier lives,  healthier homes and made many lifetime friends.

Money cannot compensate for that.
